Open Basic Education (OBE) Programme at Holy Heart Special School
Holy Heart Special School is proud to be an Accredited Agency under the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS), offering the Open Basic Education (OBE) Programme. This programme provides flexible, inclusive, and learner-centric education for children and adults who seek an alternative to the formal schooling system.
What is OBE?
It caters to:
- Children below 14 years of age, including school dropouts and children with special needs.
- Adults above 14 years of age, including neo-literates and those who have not completed formal schooling.
The programme is designed to provide basic education through open and distance learning modes, ensuring that every learner has the opportunity to study at their own pace and convenience.
Who Can Enroll?

- School dropouts

Eligibility Criteria
Level A:
- Minimum Age: 7 years as on 31st March of the year of admission.
- Eligibility: Open to all children meeting the age criterion.
Level B:
- Minimum Age: 9 years as on 31st March of the year of admission. Eligibility:
- Learners who have completed Level A.
- Learners who have passed Class III from a recognized institution.
- Learners who provide a self-declaration stating: "I have studied enough to be able to pursue OBE Level B.
Level C:
- Minimum Age: 12 years as on 31st March of the year of admission. Eligibility:
- Learners who have completed Level B.
- Learners who have passed Class V from a recognized institution.
- Learners who provide a self-declaration stating: "I have studied enough to be able to pursue OBE Level C.
Examinations and Certification
- Examinations: Learners can appear for the first examination at any level after a minimum of nine months from the date of admission.
- Certification: Upon successful completion, learners receive a certificate jointly issued by NIOS and Holy Heart Special School, recognized across India.
